PARTICIPANT AFTER DARK presents Elia Grace Green, Flesh Compost, a virtual screening and online installation of imagery sourced from the artist Elia Grace Green’s photographic and music video practice. The project takes its name from one of Green’s eponymous music albums, Flesh Compost, while simultaneously appropriating the visual cue of compost itself. Three music videos: Pretty Girls, Death, and Flesh Compost unearth themselves amidst a trove of archival aggregate in the tradition of Tumblr wayfinding and scroll-thru interfaces. In this additive mode, fragments of Green’s writing emerge within a diaristic stratification of image subsets that correspond to their respective music video, and embody a retrospective voice used in social media posts. Green reconfigures and deploys their own personal and traumatic experiences of predation in visual and audio formats, creating video collages and psychologically charged looping tracks that are intimate snapshots inspired by emotional contemplations of beauty, fear, and the desire to transgress gendered confinements.
Elia Grace Green (b. 2000) is a New-York based multimedia artist working primarily in video installation, drawing, and photography. Green’s work is accessible via different virtual platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, and Tumblr, where its context and presence accrues and defines itself among underground communities and viewership.
