RODRIGO MOREIRA, A GRAND AFFAIR
Curated by Serubiri Moses
November 24, 2024 - March 2, 2025

On November 24, 2024, Participant After Dark will premiere Rodrigo Moreira, A Grand Affair, curated by Serubiri Moses. Moreira’s work has taken shape in nontraditional formats including archival projects, experimental books, and oral histories through the artist’s own “government office” that investigates the political and interpersonal relationships formed by queer immigrants within the US. Building upon Moreira’s recent video and printed matter project, N.S.A., a fictional immigration office for queer immigrants, A Grand Affair is structured as an immigration interview as love letter. Constituting evidence of commitment to a genuine relationship, the real subject is the logistics of a long-term commitment. In this love story, capitalism and its influence within the U.S. immigration system initiates a psychological reading of an immigrant’s romantic and erotic experience of becoming American.
