Ingestible Correctness
April 9 - May 9. 2004
PARTICIPANT INC presents Indigestible Correctness. Inspired by surrealist texts and actions, Rita Ackermann and Lizzi Bougatsos have assembled the exhibition project, Indigestible Correctness. Occurring in two venues simultaneously (PARTICIPANT INC and Kenny Schachter/ROVE), the exhibition comprises an intergenerational group of artists whose works manifest the dualism of urgency and fragility, stylistically characterized by aggression and throwaway elegance--terms the curators use to describe their overall aesthetic interests. Including pioneers of personal nonconformity who have inspired movements, the exhibition deploys non-iconic works by well-known artists along with challenging works by a new generation, uniting to propose a prototype for a utopia that doesn't exist.
